Call Recording via ODialer

In the previous video, we covered how to set up call recording on Samsung phones. If you are watching this video, you are on a non-Samsung Android device — such as an Oppo, Realme, Vivo, Xiaomi, OnePlus, or any other Android brand — and your default dialer is Google Dialer.

This video will walk you through the exact steps to get call recording syncing into telecrm on your device.

Follow each step in order, and by the end, your call recordings will be automatically attached to your leads inside telecrm.

1 — Why Google Dialer Alone Does Not Work

  • Before we begin the setup, there is one important thing you need to understand.
  • Even if your phone is already recording calls through Google Dialer — and even if you can see those recordings inside the Google Dialer app — telecrm will still not be able to sync them.
  • The reason is that Google Dialer restricts third-party apps from accessing its call recording files. This is a limitation imposed by Google, not telecrm.
  • This means we need to switch to a different dialer app that allows telecrm to access recordings. That app is called Odialer.

2 — Check If Odialer Is Supported on Your Device

  • The first thing to do is find out whether Odialer can be installed on your phone, because not all Android devices support it.
  • Open the Google Play Store and search for Odialer.
  • If Odialer appears and shows an Install button, your phone supports it, and you can move to the next step.
  • If Odialer does not appear, or if it shows as incompatible or unavailable on your device, then unfortunately, call recording cannot be synced on your phone through telecrm. This is a device-level restriction, and there is no workaround available for this case.

3 — Install Odialer and Set It as Default

  • If Odialer is available, go ahead and install it.
  • Once installed, you need to set Odialer as your default dialer. This step is mandatory — if Odialer is not the default, call recording will not work.
  • When you install Odialer fresh, your phone will prompt you right then to set it as the default dialer — go ahead and set it as default at that point itself.
  • In case Odialer is already installed on your device and you skipped that step, you can set it manually by going to Settings, tapping Apps, then Default Apps, and selecting Phone. From here, choose Odialer as your default phone app.

4 — Enable Call Recording in Odialer

  • Now let's turn on call recording inside Odialer.
  • Open the Odialer app. Tap the three dots in the top right corner and go to Settings.
  • From there, open Call Recording and enable the option that says Record All Calls.
  • Once this is on, Odialer will automatically record every call made from your device going forward.

5 — Make a Test Call

  • This step is critical and must not be skipped.
  • After enabling call recording, make at least one outgoing test call. The reason this is mandatory is that Odialer only creates the call recording folder on your device after the very first recorded call. Without this folder, telecrm has nowhere to sync from.
  • Make a quick test call, let it connect, and then end it. Then confirm the recording was created by going into Odialer Settings, opening Call Recording, and checking the Storage Location.
  • The most common path where Odialer saves recordings is:

6 — Configure the Media Path in telecrm

  • Now we need to tell telecrm exactly where Odialer is saving its recordings.
  • Open the telecrm app and go to the main menu. Tap on Call Tracking to find the Media Path option inside it.
  • Once inside Media Path, tap Select Folder and navigate to the following path:
  • Once you are inside that folder, tap Use This Folder.
  • Your device will ask for permission — tap Allow to complete the selection.
  • At this point, telecrm may ask if you want to sync your older calls. If you want past recordings attached to your leads, tap Sync.
  • After tapping Sync, select the duration for which you want to sync older recordings — we recommend 24 hours to start.
  • telecrm will process all your calls from that period and attach the recordings to your leads. If you want to start fresh, simply tap Cancel, and only new calls will sync going forward.

7 — Disable Wi-Fi Calling

  • One setting that commonly breaks call recording sync is Wi-Fi Calling. If this is turned on, recordings may not be created correctly by your phone.
  • Go to your phone Settings and search for Wi-Fi Calling.
  • If it is enabled, turn it off. This ensures that all your calls go through your SIM network and get recorded as expected.

And that's it — your non-Samsung Android phone is now fully configured to sync call recordings into telecrm via Odialer.

From this point on, every incoming and outgoing call will be recorded by Odialer and automatically attached to the corresponding lead inside telecrm— giving you and your team complete visibility into every conversation.

If recordings are still not syncing after following all these steps, please reach out to telecrm support, and our team will be happy to help.

In the next video, we will cover the setup for devices using an OEM dialer. See you there.
