Generating API Keys

Generating API Keys

Let's say you want to connect your custom-coded website, your landing pages, your mobile app, or any other platform with telecrm — so that leads flow in automatically, along with all their relevant details. The smartest way to make this happen in real time is through telecrm's API keys.

In this video, we'll show you how to create your API token in telecrm, step by step. You'll see the difference between the Async and Sync APIs and when to use each.

Steps to Generate API Keys in telecrm

1. Open telecrm in your browser. On the left-hand menu, click Integrations. In the search bar at the top, type Website to find the right integration.

2. When the Website integration shows up, click Activate Now if this is your first time creating API keys. If you've made keys before, you'll see a Manage button instead — click that to continue.

3. You'll now see a screen explaining the two types of APIs telecrm offers:

(a) Async APIs (Recommended)

Async is the high-volume workhorse — you send leads, and it processes them in the background, so it's cheaper and handles far more requests per hour, making it ideal for creating, updating, or bulk-pushing leads.

  • Use cases: Create new leads, update lead information, bulk lead operations

(b) Sync APIs (Rate-limited)

Sync is the real-time option — it answers each request instantly with a full JSON response, which makes it the right choice for reading, searching, or any action where you need confirmation back, though it's rate-limited to fewer requests per hour at a higher cost.

  • Use cases: Get lead details, search leads, immediate feedback

4. Note that telecrm uses Bearer Token authentication. In simple terms, every request you send must carry a secure token in its header, written as Authorization: Bearer <your_token>. Think of this token as an ID card that proves the request is genuine — without it, telecrm won't accept the request.

5. To make your token, click Create New Token. A short form will open.

6. Give your token a clear name that tells you what it's for later — like "Website Leads API" or "Facebook Ads API".

7. Next, choose how you want telecrm to handle duplicate leads (this is the Lead Recapture setting):

  • Never — the same lead coming in again is always treated as brand new; it's never marked as a repeat.
  • Once a Day — if the same lead comes in several times in 24 hours, only the first one counts as a repeat; the rest that day are ignored.
  • Once an Hour — if the same lead comes in several times within an hour, only the first one counts as a repeat; the rest in that hour are ignored.
  • Always — every time the same lead comes in, it's marked as a repeat, with no time limit.

8. Choose your API type. Here, we'll go with the Async API.

9. Click Generate API Token. telecrm will create a unique token for your workspace and show it on screen just once. Copy it right away and save it somewhere safe — for security, it won't be shown again.

10. Once it's created, click View Documentation to open telecrm's official Async API documentation page.

11. On that page, scroll down to the Endpoint section. This is where you'll find the API endpoint URL — the exact web address your external system will send its lead data to.

And that's all you need to follow to create your API Keys in telecrm. You now have your token and endpoint URL ready, so you can start sending leads into your workspace from any outside source. Just one thing to remember — copy and save your token the moment it appears, because it's shown only once. Keep it safe and treat it like a password.

From here, just add these details to your website, ad platform, or app, and your leads will start flowing into telecrm on their own.
